Black Belt Test I can't even begin to explain my feelings about testing for my black
belt. . .in Chinese Kung Fu. . .in the Republic of China. With several international
champions either testing with me or grading me, it certainly has been a special
experience.
About two months ago, I was happily planning to test for my yellow
belt. I worked primarily with the one English- speaking instructor at the school and very
little with the Chief Instructor, Coach Jeung. I was very surprised
when he offered me the opportunity to advance quickly to black belt.
Last November, I represented Taipei in the North
Taiwan Championship Tournament, and Coach Jeung was impressed with
my work ethic and desire to learn. He wanted to work with me more but
money and time constraints were in the way. We worked it all out and
voila, here I am testing for my first degree black belt.
The English- speaking instructor, my good friend Mick, and all other
ranking students at the school (including current world champion Yung
Doong-Hsiun) all have helped me incredibly. They made sure that even
though I am working quickly, I still put in the same amount of blood,
sweat and effort as all the other black belts.
Anyone that has ever worked out with me knows I had no problem with
the sweat.

There were so many cameras at the test, I haven't received all of the pictures yet. My camera was used primarily to make video clips of all of the fighting. Please, check out: -- Me sparring
As the only westerner testing this time -- and the second ever to get a black belt with the Tawan Kung Fu San Da Association -- I have been very honored, and treated very well. I was interviewed for several newspapers and television news shows. I'll have more images and videos as they're ready! | ||||
