All for $7500NT plus utilities

meFinally, I'm having the online housewarming party. Everyone, stand up, go to the fridge, get a beer (it's a byob housewarming) and buy me a present (more beer will do).

Yes, my rent is $7500 dollars a month. That does not include utilities. However, that is New Taiwanese (NT) Dollars, not US, so it equalls, roughly, $270 US. That's pretty good, I think. Considering I have a spacious two bedroom, convenient to trains and buses and about two blocks from my work. Damn nice if you ask me.

To move in, I hired the "Blue Truck -- speaks English" guy, Stephen. We started in Yung Ho, south west of Taipei to pick up some tables. Then to Kuankuang to buy a fridge from a Canadian heading to Thailand. Then to get my leather couch from an American (I meet so few Americans here, as opposed to South Africans, New Zealanders, Australians and Canadians) in Hsi Chih. I picked up my few belongings from my old place and then off to the new flat. Sans roomates. With an extra bedroom for studying martial arts and piling up laundry. Yippee.

To Gary & Kristen, in cleaning the new apartment, I found some mysterious keys which I think are the spares to your house. I don't know if I mentioned that I still have them to you or not, but, well, they're here. So you don't have to change the locks or anything. I'll give them to Jason (you listening Jason) when he gets here in November. Sorry about that. And, once again, thank you for your hospitality before I left. I look forward to you beating me up when I get back.

I also realized today that I have not communicated with my very tall friend, Malcolm the Malkontent in a long time. Malcolm, if you read this, email me at once. Thanks. While I'm griping about people who I miss while outside of the US, Evan, it wouldn't hurt to write to me as well. Or Gitai. Or my sister, Barbara. (BTW. it was nice hearing from Ronna. A total blast from the past!)

And, finally, happy birthdays to Kelly and Ryan. Congrats to Thom & Erica, Kevin, Paul, and (long time no see) Nick.
