SARS

Yep, there are some crazy precautions on account of SARS here in Taiwan. The masks. Temperature checkpoints at malls, hospitals, McDonalds -- everywhere. The question on many minds is whether folks are taking it too seriously or not seriously enough.

I wanted to see The Matrix 2 at the theater. I asked a Taiwanese co-worker to recommend a movie theater. I then was berated by my boss for wanting to go into a place with air conditioning and people who may be infected. She was paniced and complained that I didn't care because I do not have my own children and I should think of others before doing something so foolish as seeing a movie.

Whatever.

I saw the movie anyway. The special effects were phenominal. The story: mediocre and predictable. Keanu Reaves still is possibly one of the worst actors of all time and the fact that he is famous at all is a black mark in the history of film. If only Malcavich got to stab him Dangerous Liasons or if Patrick Swayze could have shot him (then himself) in Point Break. If only a special effects person had forgetten to put blanks in the gun. . . if only. . .

I would also like to note that I genuinely enjoy living and teaching in Taiwan and would gladly return or recommend coming here to anyone.
