Photogenic

meFINALLY: I update my site. . .

Yes I have an entire CD of images from my February US trip to post. Yes, there are a million other events, happenings and goofy images I want to share. And, of course, with a few more cups of coffee, I will get to all of these things. First, however: I actually found real live Taiwanese people willing to have there pictures taken!!!

To the right is Hsiao Hsu-Juan (Sue). I have many, many, many pictures of her to post and stories to tell. Let's just say that she knows a little kung fu and fears nothing (except the water). Below, is my friend, Eric. I recall taking a picture of him eating some kind of bizarre Taiwanese version of a sandwich, but I can't remember why. D'oh.

To celebrate my brother's birthday in April, Sue and I went to see The Beastie Boys at the Tibetan Freedom Concert (The title that the People's Republic of China sees: "A Free Taiwan for a Free Tibet." Cool stuff.) The Beasties had played in Tokyo the night before and seemed a little jet lagged. I know that Tokyo and Taipei are in the same time zone, but I think they had just flown to Asia from New York by way of a big party on the airplane. But what do I know?

There were speeches by exiled Tibetan Monks and Taiwanese political figures. Music of every genre in several language: Tuvan Singers, Chinese Hip Hop, Hong Kong Thrash, Taiwanese Folk -- you name it. . .

I am happy to communicate with everyone again. I miss posting my travel journal online. It was a sad day when my noble Power Book drew its last breath and headed for the great computer lab in the sky. (Donations for a new iBook will be taken via pay pal or cash. Thank you for your support.)

Currently, we are amidst a SARS scare. Everyone is wearing masks and they check your temperature before letting you into shopping malls and movie theaters. If this isn't a sign of the apocolypse, I don't know what is.

I am working on plans to return home in August. I'll keep everyone posted. Before I head out of here, I hope to fight in one more kung fu tournament and eat plenty of noodle bowls. Everyone, take care and send me random email, eh? (PS. Happy Birthday Kevin and Lori!!!)
