Big Flipping Shopping Mall
When you build something as bold as the tallest building --all encased
in glass with neat chrome trim, what do you put inside this marvel of
human contempt for nature? A shopping mall, of course. . .
The really tall part of the tower isn't open yet, so when Sue's parents
came to Taipei, and wanted to see the tower, all we could do was go
to the connecting mall. It is very, very large, with a concert area
on the top floor, and millions of overpriced clothing shops.
Sue spapped these pictures of some of the more gluttonous sites inside
this den of capitalist inequity. It was Seattle gray and rainy outside,
so none of the views of the big tower are here, however, you can see
it from our balcony, so, on the next sunny day, more pictures will be
posted. OK?
I am much happier spending a buck on my Tony Hilfinger socks at a night
market then breaking the bank shopping at a mall, but the world seems
to like expenses for the sake of being expensive. So. . .capitalist.

Back for another tour of Taiwan. It's very surreal. I took a job at a Montessori pre-school near my house, but still have to go to Hong Kong for a new visa. Blah. We were on the news last night with a Kung Fu demonstration. I had emailed the link to the video to a few folks only to find that the TV station only kept it up for a day. I'm off to bed. More to post later! -November 25, 2003 | ||||
