Kung Fu Championship I was thinking back to the Sabaki Tournament in Seattle years ago.
I was nervous. I was in good physical shape but hadn't done any special
tournament training. I was disqualified for pounding on my opponants'
heads. The Taiwan Kung Fu Championship was very different.
Punches to the head seem to be required. Throws of any kind are the
best way to win. After my first fight (I won convincingly with a unanimous
decision), I relaxed and looked better and moved faster as the weekend
wore on.
The story? Friday, the Taipei team took a bus together to Kaohsiung
on the south side of the island. At the same time, The Kung Fu Girl,
Sue, was meeting my friends Mark and Dahlia at the airport. Saturday
morning, we all met at the tournament.
To the right, you see me, the ring, Coach Jung, and my friend, Hsin
Jin. I fought three fights total. In the second, I was taken to school
by a former Pan-Asian Games Silver Medalist. I then tore up my final
opponant for a third place finish. I have videos and stuff to post.
. .eventually.

After the tournament, Mark, Dahlia and I took a trip to Green Island. Sadly, I don't have many pictures of Green Island because I ran out of room on the camera. . . that just means we have to go back and sit on the beaches of this small south Taiwan island. Advice: DO NOT TAKE THE FERRY TO GREEN ISLAND. It's worth it to fly. Especially if it's raining. I have to get back to packing for my return to the states. . . | ||||
