Kick
Don't let the janitor at Taipei Main Station near any photographic equipment. Mine is the third crotch from the left.

Kick
A toast from Gary, one of the language school teacher trainers.

Hell Redefined

meYou think you have it bad? Two straight weeks of six 12-hour days. It's been harsh, but they say it is necessary. I'm still living in a hotel. I still am giving in to the temptation to eat at every streetside vendor and try the local foods. I've met many neat people also teaching for Hess schools.

In my time in Taipei, I've visited the night markets, gone bar hopping and met more South Africans then I ever have in my life. I made it out of the city to see the suburb where I'll teach. Sadly, I do not have pictures of my new home.

Despite how adventurous I have become, I did not eat the steamed frogs. The dumplings were good. The coffee was good. The hotel breakfast is greasy.

Despite the long hours training and all the days spent doing projects and observing classes, I only have pictures of the fun stuff. At the end of the first week of training, we had a victory party and went to some expatriot bars. I always wanted to be an expatriot. So cool -- like Edie Amin in France.

TaichiTo the left: Me and Ankia -- a groovy South African teacher I met in training; Dain - another South African; a guard at the Chiang Kaisheck Memorial; and Adam from Canada. Adam and I tipped a few pints together this week. Good times had by all.

This week is Kindergarten Training, The Lantern Festival and my last week in the hotel. I can't wait to move into my apartment and begin work. I plan on buying a Vespa once I get my Taiwan drivers license. I'll post more soon!
